“Theater is for everyone, but not for everything”: the arrival of La Barra to the Teatro del Libertador General San Martín
Main Article Content
This article aims to reflect upon the arrival of one of the most widely admired genres of popular music in the Argentine interior, the Córdoba quartet, epitomized by the group La Barra, to one of the most important theaters in Argentina: the Teatro del Libertador San Martín. The objective is to account, through a historical-cultural contextualization and the analysis of various sources, for the implications of the interweaving of cultural fields that coexisted harmoniously while their other respective spaces were separated. In a more general sense, the article includes a reflection about the relationship between the worlds of popular music, and the cultural spaces historically reserved for classical performing arts of European origin, taking as an axis of analysis the arguments that either supported or opposed the arrival of the quartet to one of the iconic cultural institutions of the province of Córdoba, towards the beginning of the 2000s.
