"Ultra Solo" by Polimá Westcoast ft. Pailita as a reference for the popularity of Chilean urban genre
Main Article Content
The following research aims to characterize the song “Ultra Solo” by Polimá Westcoast ft. Pailita as a reference for the popularity of the Chilean urban genre, carrying out an intermedial analysis of its intramusical (harmonic, musical, performative and narrative) and extramusical (visual, audiovisual and discursive) clusters; and an analysis that allows us to characterize the succession of elements that make up its song-form. This qualitative analysis is complemented by the interpretation of quantitative data generated in real time by Spotify, favoring the discussion around various meanings of the concept of popularity. Among the main findings of this investigation, we may highlight the evident contradiction between a narrative of persistent loneliness and the hyperconnection of Chilean youth with social networks, as well as the adoption of festive, danceable and daring aesthetic trends linked to the culture of trap and reggaeton music.
