The challenge of immediacy for the murga scene in Chile. Satirical musical expressions in contexts of social distancing
Main Article Content
This article analyzes and contextualizes lyrical and musical satirical creation online, in the scenario of social distancing imposed by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The aim is to address the phenomenon of the murga in Chile, as a carnival expression that integrates music and lyrics, from the perspective of interculturality in global Latin America, and how the Internet can enable processes of cultural identification and transmission of counter-hegemonic content, contributing to social reflection on everyday life and social problems of the middle and low-income classes. Several ensembles of Uruguayan-style murgas in Chile, between March and April 2020, joined a virtual challenge, create and disseminate a short song, a salpicón of sung news, to give an account of the current social, political, and health situation in the country. This article facilitates an understanding of how these groups are constituted as reflexive artistic agents in an intercultural context, based on an analysis of the texts created for this instance.
