Main Article Content
Abstract
This article focuses on one of the most widely used genres by Andean peoples in Chile: the tarqueada. This analysis seeks to unravel the deeper meaning of this genre, not only as a musical expression but also as a vehicle for cultural identity and resistance in the 21st century. It examines the possible cases that motivated its establishment in the territory of the Arica and Parinacota Region, its influences, its respective reconfigurations, and new ways of understanding a dynamic performance that is constantly evaluated while maintaining its musical reach and identity validity. It also highlights the external influences that have shaped the Chilean Aymara tarqueada, especially those from neighboring countries, and how these musicalities have been assimilated by local communities in an attempt to strengthen their sense of belonging, thus revealing a living bond expressed in a dance-musical manifestation of resonant identity. The analysis is approached using anthropological, ethnomusicological and social history elements as a central basis.
