“Paris à nouveau! The contemporary tango scene among 21st-century Argentine-Parisian orchestras”

Main Article Content

Tango, performed by orchestras such as Fleurs Noires and TAXXI Tango XXI (TTXXI), plays a crucial role in the contemporary Parisian music scene of the present century. These groups have promoted creative and innovative proposals, consolidating different styles and subgenres within tango. Fleurs Noires follows a post-Piazzolla evolutionary direction, mixing some elements of academic and tango language. On the other hand, TTXXI aligns itself with the style that, initiated by Osvaldo Pugliese, was reinvented in the 2000s with the Orquesta Típica Fernández Fierro (OTFF), and is now redefined again in Paris in an energetic, intense and rock-influenced format. The contemporary tango music scene of the 21st century is understood here from a metageographic perspective. It is presented as a globally coherent, translocal scene, yet simultaneously, it is fragmented and complex. This analysis highlights the need to approach contemporary tango music from a perspective that transcends geographical and cultural boundaries, recognizing its dynamic and multifaceted nature.
