Main Article Content
This article presents an investigation carried out between 2020 and 2022, describing and analyzing the experience of the vocal group Santiago Cuatro, within the framework of the changes and continuities experienced in an area of music with folk roots in Chile, from the mid-20th century onwards. To guide this study, designed to foster comprehension, a qualitative and historical methodological strategy was chosen, including the analysis of the discourse of members of Santiago Cuatro, as recorded in six in-depth interviews. Additionally, we analyzed two bibliographic sources that contributed to the understanding of our object of study: a selection of books and articles relevant to our research topic, and press files obtained in the homes of the group members. The analysis and triangulation of this information reveals scarcely considered experiences, events and ideas, offering an account of forms of modernization, tensions and projections of popular music with folk roots in Chile.
