In this paper we propose an analysis of Jacinto Piedra’s trajectory and his album El incendio del poniente (1984), inserting it in the framework of the Argentine democratic spring, from a socio-discursive perspective (Díaz 2009, 2013, 2020). We investigate the relationship between youth and folklore in the ‘60s and ‘70s in order to account for the particular relationship established by the album in question with youth cultures of the time. We consider that, based on visual, literary, and sonorous-musical aspects, as well as the network of relationships that it foregrounds, the album articulates a discourse in which folklore and youth can be part of the same identity construction. This discourse does not, however, concern youth in an abstract sense, but rather direct references and links with youth cultures of that era, particularly rock. We consider that the disc constructs an enunciatary who in that first year of democracy can be young and have a connection to folklore as well as to rock.
