Contrapulso is a biannual open-access journal published by the Universidad Alberto Hurtado of Chile, with blind, external peer review. It is oriented towards the multidisciplinary study of popular music in/from Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as so-called Latin music in the world. We are interested in everything from the musical, literary, performative, sonic, (audio)visual and/or discursive examination of popular repertoire, to the study of industries, audiences and everything that has surrounded and fueled popular music at any historical moment. We invite researchers from (ethno)musicology, the arts, humanities and social sciences. Each published article is assigned a unique DOI (Digital Object Identifier).

This is an open access journal, so all content is freely available without charge to the user or their institution. Users may read, download, copy, distribute, print, search or link to the full texts of articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without asking the publisher or author for access in advance. Throughout the year, the journal receives proposals for thematic dossiers related to the multidisciplinary study of popular music in Latin America and the Caribbean and Latin music in the world.
